Work packages

WP1 - Project Management

WP1 will ensure the smooth running of the project (administratively, financially and technically), timely completion of deliverables, liaison with the EC and organisation of project meetings.

WP2 - Raising Research Profile

WP2 is dedicated to strengthening the scientific and technological potential of the human resources of INESC TEC mainly through the interaction between people not only from different institutions, but also with expertise in different topics. This will be achieved through the organization of hands-on summer/winter schools and thematic workshops.

WP3 - Reinforcement of Scientific and Technological Potential

WP3 aims at improving the scientific visibility of INESC TEC through the organization of networking meetings, conferences and scientific events.

WP4 - Young researchers support and knowledge leverage

WP4 will be dedicated to create activities that will support young researchers and will improve their career through short term scientific missions in the partners research institutions and mentoring of the students during that period.

WP5 - Dissemination and Communication

WP5 aims at the dissemination of project results to scientific, industry and investment communities, as well as to the public. This involves general dissemination activities (website, newsletters among and other dissemination material) as well as conference presentations, organisation of workshops/brokerage events with stakeholders and participation in international trade fairs.

WP1 and WP5 are transversal activities that span the entire project duration. WP1 deals with the management of the project and therefore provides inputs to the other work packages. WP2, WP3 and WP4 are focused work packages that will provide throughout the project inputs to the Dissemination and Communication work package, at the pace that twinning activities are developed.
WP2, WP3 and WP4 are connected since the acquired information in WP2 will lead to the generation of new ideas that can be explored within WP3 and WP4 activities such as within short-term scientific missions or networking meetings for the launch of new joint research initiatives. The partners will be strongly engaged with the project since each of them will lead one of the work packages. In this way, a better communication and overall awareness of the ongoing activities of the project can be easily attained.
Below, in figure 4 and 5 is shown a Pert chart with the relation and connections among the different work packages and the timeline of the proposed activities. Each thematic term, defined by the functional objectives, and addressed by each partner has a duration of nine months. In this period, specific activities related with the functional objectives must be addressed (in particular, thematic workshop, short-mission and hands-on winter/summer school). From our previous experience in STRONGMAR, the set of activities related with a specific field will improve the engagement and the knowledge acquired from the researcher. In particular, this DEEPFIELD intends to give strong focus to the development of INESC TEC young researchers, thus the short-missions will be mostly dedicated to them, even though they can involve other senior researcher activities. The month prior and after the end of each term will not have any appointed activity do be devoted to sum up the knowledge acquired and to publish the results achieved in the term in peer-review journals or conferences in the field.
